Quenda Quilts

What temperature rating is right for me?
  • Temperature ratings are one of if not the most important aspect of choosing a quilt. They are also often the most subjective. The Quenda Quilts ratings are based on the calculated loft height and the down fill percentages. Using this, a base temperature can be calculated.

There are a few things to consider when choosing a temperature for your Quenda.

  • Men often sleep warmer than women and can often get away with choosing an ‘exact’ temperature whereas it may be necessary for women or cold sleepers to drop a temperature or two. (Example: a -7c quilt may be perfect for a man/warm sleeper whereas a woman/ cold sleeper may need a -10c Quenda to be comfortable at the same temperature. If in doubt, dropping to a lower temperature rating is always a safe bet.
  • Due to the design of all quilts, having an adequately rated sleeping pad is crucial to your overall sleep system and comfort. Having a super warm quilt with an unsuitable pad will almost always result in a cold night's sleep. For anything above freezing a pad with an R-value of 3-4 is recommended, anything below freezing an R-value of 4.5+ is highly recommended.
What width should I choose?

Width is an important factor when choosing your Quenda Quilt. If you are an active or side sleeper a WIDE or EXTRA WIDE is recommended to provide both adequate room to move whilst still having enough width to ensure you are still properly covered. If in double please reach out to discuss.

What’s so unique about Quenda baffle design?

The Quenda’s unique baffle design is key to reducing unwanted movement of down whilst you are sleeping. This movement of down creates cold spots and can greatly reduce the comfort of a quilt. The smaller horizontal baffles width paired with the two vertical side baffles helps maintain and control down distribution keeping it in the core of the quilt keeping you consistently warmer.

The baffle layout gives the ability to custom fill specific sections of the quilt with more or less down. For example, more insulation can be added in the horizontal baffles at the centre or foot end of the quilt adding more warmth in these key areas. The reduced width (when compared to a fully horizontal baffle design) of the horizontal baffles means that the additional down added is kept to an absolute minimum and targets these specific areas. This cannot be done with a vertical baffled quilt and is less efficient in a fully horizontal baffled quilt.

The vertical baffles situated along the edge of the quilt, especially the furthest two, offer the ability to reduce the down volume in these slightly, as they do little for overall warmth being situated underneath you in general use, thereby helping to reduce the total weight and packed volume of the quilt.

How do I use my Pad Attachment Straps?

The Pad Attachment System is designed to reduce drafts and seal in warmth when needed or when approaching the lower limits of your Quenda. Each Quenda Quilt will come with 2 elastic straps. Simply pull these onto your pad (one roughly a third down from the head and another at the halfway point), you can then attach the corresponding clip on your Quenda. Once inside your quilt you can adjust the spacing by gently sliding the buckles closer together or further apart depending on your needs.

What length is best for me?

The length of the quilt will be determined by your height. The quilts length is measured from top to bottom with the quilt fully opened.

For example, if you are 175cm tall a 178cm length Quenda should provide just enough room taking into account the slight reduction in length when cinched and the fact the quilt will come up just above the shoulder. If you fall on or close to a specific length jumping up to the next size is recommended.

For stomach sleepers it is recommended to go up a length. If in doubt please reach out to discuss.

What are the washing Instructions?

Hand wash only using a down specific detergent (NikWax, Grangers or similar). Low/No temperature tumble dry or air dry recommended. Gently pat any down clumps if needed to redistribute the down.
